Ori and the Blind Forest is a wonderful game, haven't played the sequel yet. And metroidvanias I think are my favourite genre because of their logical progression and structure, Super Metroid being my all time favourite.

As I was reading your excellent post (had no idea there were so many to call "cosy") it made me think why I enjoy the backtracking so much. Calling it cosy might be the wrong word, but I find it very satisfying and relaxing. The first time through an area is harder or challenging, but eventually you will have to return and you'll be more powerful. It is incredibly satisfying to smash through what used to be a tricky part and suddenly blitz through with ease. I can't explain it better than that but I hope that makes sense.

YES! That really makes sense! It's like an earned confidence that I don't get from many other genres. The satisfaction of a world becoming familiar and navigable. You absolutely need to play Will of the Wisps by the way; it's a fantastic time but the story is a heartbreaker!

Catmaze and gato roboto were awesome finds in my book in this genre. Really was surprised by them.

You have a book in this genre? Oh please share the title, I would love to read it!

I am playing Gato Roboto next - I'm so excited as it looks like a great time!

Oh I meant more like the saying “in my book” which I may have mis/used as English is my second language. 😅 however lost in cult just released or is releasing a communal history of metroidvanias :)

Oh hahaha no no, that was me reading it completely wrong and hoping you had written a book :-D Ohhh thank you for that, I am going to add the book to my list because I'm really interested in MVs at the moment!!

All if the games I’ve enjoyed most in the last year are on your list. Yoku was a great time. The Ori games are a real standout for me.

Not exactly cosy but I very much enjoyed Grime and have recently started playing Grime II.
